ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Professor Nguyen Dong Chi was born in Phan Thiet (Binh Thuan Province), originally from Ha Tinh Province. He was the son of Nguyen Hiet Chi, a highly respected teacher and co-founder of the renowned Duc Thanh School.

With a literary career spanning more than 50 years, he contributed significantly to Vietnamese literature, history, Han-Nom studies, archaeology, and particularly folklore research. He is regarded as one of Vietnam’s foremost folklorists and the first scholar to systematize Vietnamese fairy tale motifs in relation to international counterparts. His magnum opus, The Treasure of Vietnamese Fairy Tales, is considered a classic in folklore studies.

In 1996, he was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts by the Government of Vietnam. Several streets in cities such as Ha Tinh, Hai Duong, Da Nang, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Kien Giang have been named in his honor.
